Allies in Action

An all-ages event for seniors

Coming in Sept. Oct. and Nov. of 2024 and Feb. of 2025

Onmyplanet.ca and MediaNet Victoria / FLUX Media Gallery are proud to present Allies in Action, A series of community discussion events about activism, inclusion and DIY community building, guided by the experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ older adults.

Meet some of your community, bring your ideas, your sense of adventure, and prepare to get involved.

Come for one event or come to them all.

It’s free to register and there’ll be great snacks!!

What to expect from an Allies in Action event:

  • A screening of a ~ 45 mins documentary video (1 of a 4 part series) that centres the experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ older adults (55+), promotes Inclusion and Allyship, and highlights stories of activism and community building practices.
  • A moderated discussion that builds awareness of 2SLGBTQIA+ issues and experiences, finds similarities with the participants’ current situations and encourages taking inspiration from the video stories, toward a little DIY community building.
  • Organizations that provide services for seniors are invited to attend to gain some first hand insight from the videos, and maybe get some ideas for future initiatives brought forward in the discussion. Organizations will have information about their programs and initiatives on hand to help participants connect with existing services.
  • Organizations that connect older adults and younger generations are invited to attend to encourage some intergenerational exchange.

There will be Four, Allies in Action events – three in the Fall of 2024 and one in Feb. of 2025, starting in the third week of Sept.
