Do you identify as Queer, Lesbian, Gay, Two Spirit, Bi/Pan/Polysexual, Transgender, Intersex, Gender Queer, Gender-Fluid, or something else I haven’t mentioned? Or are you an ally to someone who identifies like this?
If you answered YES then we want to hear your story.
What story? You may ask….
If you’ve gone through the process of coming out or if you’ve transitioned then you have a story.
You have faced adversity and overcome it. Maybe that was easy, maybe that was extremely difficult.
If you’ve lived your life as an out LGBTTIQQ2SA person you’ve probably bumped up against any number of “isms” and you have a story.
Or, if you’ve been a strong ally for those around you who are part of the LGBTTIQQ2SA communities, you have a story.
And we want to hear it!
It doesn’t have to be a great big dramatic story full of conflict, trauma and feather boas. The quiet, diligent, ‘personal is political’ work is incredibly effective and important and makes for great stories. For instance we love the librarians who have been calmly stocking the shelves of our public libraries with LGBTQ materials, and the high school guidance counselor who single-handedly carries the LGBTTIQQ2SA effort through an entire school system/board.
Maybe you’ve had an entirely positive experience living your life, or maybe you’ve found your own personal way to deal – tell us about it. We want to include your story in The Queer Story Archive so that everybody can benefit from your experience.
If you’d like to tell us your story please contact us at:
email@example.com (cut and paste this address into your email)
Send your name, contact info and email address, and a brief summary of your story.
Participants are identified in the archive by first name only.
We’re looking for about ten minutes or less of your life experience as a LGBTTIQQ2SA person – Whatever that means to you and however much you can cram into 10 mins.
We will ask you to sign a release form for the video that we record.
We recommend that you organize what you want to say and practice it a bit before the shoot day. It’s best for you to take the opportunity to edit yourself rather than have us do it for you, cause we will edit.
Ideally we’d like to travel to you and record your story on video. Though it might take us a while to get to you depending on where you are, so please be patient.
If you don’t like video:
You could write your story and email it to us and we’ll include it in the archive as text.
If you would like to include a photo with your written story you’re welcome to.
